Rainbow Valley Agricultural Cooperative, Inc. is an intentional community located on 200 acres of rolling Blackland Prairie and wooded stream bottoms in beautiful north Texas.
Rainbow Valley is a nonprofit cooperative registered in the state of Texas. The land is owned by the corporation. Each membership involves a stewardship, which is the right to use a home site and the responsibility of managing that home site. Members have the right to build their own off-the-grid homes and enjoy the use of the common lands. Members contribute to maintaining the cooperative’s Ag and Wildlife tax status in compliance with the county’s criteria. All decisions are made by the collective membership, with each membership representing one vote in each matter.
An emphasis has been placed on green living and wildlife preservation since our inception in 1978. Rainbow Valley is home to a substantial portion of the less than one percent of original Blackland Prairie still in existence today. With the goal of providing refuge for our native plants and wildlife, we granted a conservation easement on 78 acres to the Texas Land Conservancy (TLC). This agreement with TLC is a major accomplishment for our community in our commitment to protect the land we call home.
