The Oak Grove Foundation, a Blue Ridge Mountain center/farm, emphasizes Earth mystery traditions, harmony and peace with the Earth, simplicity, and spiritual development--in workshops, seminars, research, and writing as well as in ceremonies/celebrations.
Established in 1993, it includes the Earthpeace Center for workshops; the beginnings of a small, model 8---12-house ecovillage--emphasizing simplicity, sustainability, and alternative living and building--and a fledgling press.
The 82-acre center in a low gap in the Blue Ridge (Vermont), 60 miles from Washington, DC, is traditionally viewed as a Native American "place of peace" and a ceremonial ground for Native Americans living at the foot of the ridge along the Shenandoah River. Numerous medicine people are attracted to the land to give ceremonies, workshops, and vision quests.
Part of the land is an ancient mountain farm with venerable trees, stone walls, and lanes; views over three states; an old mountain dancing ground; the mystery and beauty of the Blue Ridge--the world's oldest mountains; and many ley lines.
Currently, one writer (Quaker/Buddhist) lives in a passive solar house, while tipis and a trailer house participants and guests. At this early stage, the center can accommodate only experienced or semiprofessional organic farmers/gardeners and builders.
