We are a registered community settlement cooperative. We own, and live together on, a 40-hectare (120-acre) grazing property in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains in the southeast corner of mainland Australia. Our current resident population is eight adults and two children. Other members and friends visit us from time to time.
for further info email bethallen@activ8.net.au
We have five family-sized dwellings here, including a community house, and comfortable caravan. We have a large organic vegetable garden, organic orchards, and a flock of free-range chickens. We are able to produce some of our own food. We manage community affairs by means of a monthly general meeting, and we hold a half-day working bee every weekend. As a group, we are not bound by any particular philosophy or belief system. Each person is free to do his or her own thing within the context of maintaining and developing community spirit. We are members of WWOOF, and we prefer visitors to do some wwoofing: i.e., they do three to four hours’ work each day, usually in the garden, in exchange for meals and accommodation.
