Formed: 1978 Established: 1978
Mount Madonna Center
Watsonville, California,
United States
We are a spiritual community, focused on yoga and service, with some 100 members living on 355 mountaintop acres, operating a conference center and a children's school. Our larger fellowship also operates a yoga and conference center in Santa Cruz, and a metaphysical bookstore.
We share in work, meals (vegetarian), spiritual practices, rituals, and play, and strive to live by positive values. Our teacher, Baba Hari Dass, embodies and teaches the classical Ashtanga (eight-limbed) yoga, with all its vital relevance to our lives today.
Our fellowship started in 1971, and our resident community in 1978. Primary criteria for membership are good work, positive attitude, and interest in spirituality. Our conference center hosts some 14,000 people each year, our children's school has some 195 students from preschool through high school, and our town center and bookstores are successful.
In January 2007, programs began at The Mount Madonna Institute, which offers diploma, certificate, and master’s degree programs in ayurveda, yoga, community studies, and massage. Most work is done on a volunteer basis. Many members also hold outside jobs. Visit our website or write for information.
