Originally formed as a support community for MNS (Movement for a New Society), the Life Center Association (LCA) is now a democratically structured organization created to develop and promote nonprofit cooperative ownership and management of property. The LCA owns and holds property in trust, keeping it affordable and well maintained for the long-term use of individuals and groups.
Six of our seven west Philadelphia properties are leased to communal houses of six or seven people each. The seventh property has two apartments, as well as offices for three nonprofit community organizations. Each household chooses its own members and is fairly autonomous. Many members are involved in community and political activities. Openings occur sporadically.
