Lichen
Wolf Creek, Oregon,
United States
Lichen, established in 1971 as a cooperative, is a community of organisms, living and growing together for mutual benefit. Several years ago, we also became a land conservancy trust, with the trust owning the land. Our facilities include a community building, four satellite retreats, a lab, a shop, a small solar greenhouse, and a garden area. Most of our 140 acres are devoted to a wildlife refuge and environmental sanctuary; as a result, we now prohibit domestic animals. Some regular monthly income is necessary, earned here or elsewhere, or previously (such as a pension check). Monthly expenses vary with seasons, tastes, and other factors, but about $250 a month would be a minimum. Environmentalism is our nearest approach to a community spirituality, and our philosophy of personal growth is based on the individual's development within a community context. This is not a putdown of individuals; rather, it emphasizes each as a part of an interdependent group. Visitors are welcome with advance arrangements. For more information, please write, including significant information about yourself. A dollar or two to help with various correspondence expenses would also be appreciated.
