Intentional Communities - A Project of the FIC

Formed: 2002 Established: 2007
Bear Grass Village
Ashland, Oregon,
United States
A cohousing community of 13 townhomes is now built! The property includes a common house and community garden. The homes are passive solar and have other green building features. The members acted as their own developer, entailing considerable commitment of time and money. Homes are very affordable for our area.
Located one mile from downtown Ashland near parks, schools and bike path, this is in-town housing in a small town. We have several families with young children, as well as single and older members. Biographies are available on our website, along with a values statement and other tidbits.
Homes range from 1 to 4 bedrooms and all have small private yards. All homes have many south facing windows, passive ventilation, radiant heat, superior insulation and qualify for Earth Advantage, our local sustainable building certification.
We worked on this project for 4.5 years. Acting as our own developer, all members contributed substantial time to the project. We practice facilitation and group process skills and are committed to clean communications, caring about each other, and having fun. We use consensus decision making.
As a small community, we place a premium on getting to know people before they become members. As of this writing, we have1 last home remaining for sale.
