Pacific Gardens Cohousing Community
Nanaimo, British Columbia,
Canada
(Vancouver Island)
Pacific Gardens is under construction and the community hopes to be moving in by the end of 2008. There are still some units available.
We have 4.37 acres on the Chase River in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. With a view of Mount Benson (and sunsets), the property is a delightful piece of 'country in the city' covered with trees, an old orchard, seasonal pond and wildflowers.
Our 25 unit building is designed to maximize green space and provide the best opportunities for social interaction. Our common-house will include a kitchen, dining room, lounge, teen room, office, children's play room, craft room, woodworking shop, and "soundproof" room for music practice and film screenings.
Each unit will be self-contained (you will have your own kitchen) and individually owned (strata-titled condo). The price (ranging from approx. Cdn $214,000 for a 1-bedroom to $434,000 for a 3-bedroom + den) includes shared ownership of the land and common amenities.
Down by the river in the forest of fir trees, you can imagine yourself far away from civilization; yet we are within a block of the bus and are minutes by car or cycle from downtown and local shopping. An elementary school, a high school, and Malaspina University-College are within easy reach.
We are committed to non-toxic products and will use the best available green building technology. Pacific Gardens Cohousing will be multi-generational and inclusive of all people who genuinely care about living in harmony with the earth and each other.
