| We are a group of traditional Mohawk people who moved in 1993 from the Akwasasne Reservation back to our ancestral homeland in the Mohawk Valley. Our community is working to preserve our Native culture and language through outreach and education programs, and by creating a traditionally oriented village, farm, and conference center. We have 372 acres of woods and fertile fields on the Mohawk River with multiple buildings and barns and a beautiful spring.
Currently we have 10 adult members and four children, and a large community of Native and non-Native friends who regularly spend periods of time with us. We run a large, organic farm, raise horses and beef cattle, have a bed and breakfast and a Native craft shop, put on an annual Strawberry festival in late June, plus many educational programs, including the summer Immersion School for the Mohawk Language.
We welcome as members or interns all Native people who are mature, hardworking, and sincerely interested in preserving the traditional ways. On our land we have no gambling, alcohol, drugs, or weapons. We try to adopt a peaceful, wholistic, spiritual, and healing approach to everything we do, and make decisions by consensus.
We are open to visitors and working visitors (with advance notice) and are willing to share knowledge of Native traditions with everyone. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
