We have been creating an intentional community since 1982.

The Apex is a limited-equity housing cooperative located at First Avenue and Bell Street in Seattle's Belltown district. Apex provides its members with affordable housing and community facilities on a nonprofit basis. Apex seeks diversity of all types in its members and caters especially to people eligible for low-income housing.

We own it!

Apex members (there are about twenty-five of us) collectively own and operate 38% of the building (the upper two floors; the owner of ground level retail owns the remaining portion). This ownership translates to a lot of freedom, responsibility, and community involvement on the part of members.

Statement of Housing Non-discrimination:

Our community does not discriminate in regards to housing based on race/color, national origin, religion, sex/gender, family status (i.e. having children, not having children, or being pregnant), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, source of income, age, creed, personal appearance, political affiliation, HIV infection, military/veteran status, unfavorable military discharge, gender identity or expression, receiving public assistance, or being the victim of domestic abuse.

Population Members(adults and children): 21 (21 Units, one membership per unit, though units may be occupied by more than one person.) Non-member Residents: (Varies, depending on # of roommates, children, subletters) Open to new members: Yes (Membership limited to 21 members, but new members sought whenever a member moves out.)	Government Decision Making: By majority rule (With consensus as an ideal.) Identified Leader: No Leadership Core Group: Yes (the apex has a yearly-rotating Board of Directors, although every member's opinion and voice has equal weight.)	Labor and Money Financial Style: Members have independent finances Labor Contribution: Expected (Weekly chores, committee service, yearly building-maintenance work parties) Join Fee: Yes (Share price ~$2,400 (in 2012), refunded upon end of membership.) Regular Fees: Yes (monthly "carrying charge" (basically equivalent to rent) based on annual budgetary needs of the community. See our website for current info.)
