Piņon Ecovillage
Santa Fe, New Mexico,
United States
We disbanded as a community in 2006. Currently, some of the houses are being rented out and some are being worked on as the one remaining community member finds time and funds.
While not actively listed for sale, I would be interested in any community group that wanted to buy or lease the property.
I would also be interested in a GROUP of people that wanted to re-vitalize the community. It would have to be a group as I need to work off-site full-time and can not host individual visitors interested in joining what is right now not a functional community.
The following is part of the description of the community as it was:
*****We are a young community committed to building a diverse egalitarian society that embraces ecological sustainability, nonviolence, feminism, multiculturalism, and caring about each other.
We value energy spent on improving interpersonal communication and deepening our connections to each other and the environment around us. Our approach to health is holistic, and we seek to integrate many healing traditions into our everyday lives. We have no common spiritual belief, but we support each other in following our own paths. The voice of every member is valued, and decisions at Piņon are made by consensus.
At Piņon we share income, labor, and resources. Each member works an average of 40 hours per week on income-producing work, gardening, cooking, building, creative projects, and various household tasks. In return, the community provides members with food, shelter, clothing, health care, and other needs and amenities.
[not]Currently, we are active in the Federation of Egalitarian Communities (FEC), the Fellowship for Intentional Community (FIC), and the Queer In Community (QIC) network. We are engaged with the greater world around us: locally, nationally, and globally. We support members in political activism and volunteer work that embodies our community values.
Community income currently comes from a nonprofit mail-order business and work off-site (construction, teaching).
We purchased a "fixer-upper" property in 2001, but have been very slow in getting it renovated because of a need for members and interns with building experience and/or willingness to learn how do do green building.
Eventually, we expect to become a small ecovillage of 15-20 if we stay on the current land. We welcome new members and interns/visitors, and also encourage dialog with those who want to be involved in ways other than full membership.*****
Status: disbanded, groups looking to re-vitalize welcome.
