We have been given the opportunity and the means to help people live their lives more abundantly through sharing their works, their goods, their suffering, and their loves. We want to humbly follow our bliss and change the world so that sorrow is replaced by joy. We think that many others have done this and are doing this better than we can do it. We like what Dorothy Day said and did, and we like what the Bruderhof Communities say and do. Reading about them and watching their efforts help us do our work.
In the last three years it has been our mission to develop and operate a medical-care cooperative. We have discovered through the volunteer efforts of a nurse practitioner and a few physicians that a co-op with one full-time medical practitioner can take care of about 3,000 patients and that the cost of doing it is about two-thirds less than traditional fee-for-service medical care funded by insurance. Also, the patients like the service and it is completely confidential since no third party has a right to the medical information. We could use members who want to help in the co-op development.
