Aquarius Nature Retreat
Vail, Arizona,
United States
(The principal is now living in Windsor, Ontario Canada. Visitors are just as welcome in Canada)
Aquarius is a mostly textile-free ecovillage at the 1300-ft level of the foothills of Rincons. A national park is our immediate neighbor. Tucson, with its one million residents, is 40 miles to the east. We respect the environment, commune with nature and its flora and fauna--a sharp contrast to the urban environment and its pollution, crime and congestion. We preserve the purity of our acreage by using natural rock to blend structures into the mountain. There are no power lines to our dwellings because we strive for solar self-sufficiency. This has been achieved with the exception of propane used for for cooking. The next construction projects are a greenhouse, hot tub, hydroponic garden, and hydrogen generator to eliminate propane purchases.
Tucson is an hour's drive to jobs. The serenity and safety of the place are ideal for writers and artists. Because of our remoteness we will not become overcrowded. The basic cost share is $200 per month per person. Your supplies will be delivered as per agreement if you do not shop yourself. Basic power is included with your shelter cost. You can reserve a location of your choice for the next time it is available by placing a deposit.
Try our unstructured, liberal life with few rules. You may become enchanted and spend a lifetime. Private ownership of land is also available.
We welcome snow birds from Canada and seek exchange of living space between the Canadian location and our community. We like the idea of being able to escape the heat of the summer into a Canadian environ and to give someone from a northern climate the oportunity to escape to the warmth of our winter. We would consider a permanent exchange.
Our liberal life encourages individuality. All 30 acres are now individually owned by four individuals or groups. The freedoms no longer achievable in cities make our paradise more and more desirable. We are one place left where one can live comfortably on social security. Our motto is "If you have nothing to do, do not do it here." Tell us what motivates you, your past, present and future desires.
There is only one resident at the ranch right now. The land was divided and the owners are in Windsor, Canada, for a while. There are 10 acres left and a lot of unfinished or finished and slowly diminishing efforts. It's an ideal place for someone or a group of people who find living in the city too difficult, and who may not want to start from a scratch. All the reasons of our past success: the weather, beauty of nature, safety and tranquility are there. Come to see for yourself. Welcome.
