HGS (‘hugs’) is 85 magical wooded acres with meadows and trails, embraced by a horseshoe bend of the Deerfield River, nestled in the Berkshire Mountains. We aim to be IN OUR ELEMENT: close knit family living sustainably, unplugged, mostly outdoors, immersed in nature...sanctuary from the hype of de-natured, high-tech, money driven, secular ways.
We delight in our old barn and cluster of indigenous lodges: tipis, wigwam, Afghan yurt. We take pride in having designed a code-approved radically low-tech, whimsical yet practical ‘inside-out house,’ fondly dubbed the OPTimal OUTpost. Around it we’re crafting the first ever Children’s Park for Natural Building.
Ours is a path less traveled ~ We’re guided by Voluntary Service, Voluntary Simplicity, & the Voice of Spirit. Our beliefs: THE most Simple, Optimistic, Empowering we can imagine. We aim for wholesome choices in all realms: Patterned after natural systems/Warm loving relationships, with all ages intermixed/An ongoing open forum where age, material wealth, & status carry no weight in whom we honor, help or invite into our midst./ Currency: Go giving; the more that goes around, comes around. To us, a seamless web of connection with Nature/Spirit/Kin is our birthright & lifeblood.
