| De Regenboog has five purposes. (1) Community: sharing daily life, learning the conditions to and consequences of brother-sisterhood in practice. (2) Justice: more than economic justice; the organization of society so that every person (and nature) can really live in freedom and security, with guarantee for all rights. (3) Nonviolence: community life is a continuous exercise in nonviolent approach to differences and conflicts. (4) Deepening: against the superficiality in thinking and relations in society; study, sharing, prayer, liturgy for a realistic, sober, and liberating spirituality. (5) Utopia: a symbolic word to synthesize the whole of our life; the vision of another world in peace, love, and justice--not possible (u-topos) but now directly started in smaller unities, e.g., communities.
Our life is very simple and sober, supposing trust and friendship and openness to other people in search of security, friendship, etc. Since the death of the father of the family, we only participate in peace manifestations and other events; we no longer organize them. Living in the city and working outside (teaching or studying), we do not have much contact with our neighbors. We are part of the movement of basic Christian communities in the Flanders. The engaged members of the community are de facto Christians (this is not a condition); there also is no condition for the guests who participate in our life but do not have right of decision. We speak Dutch, also French, some of us also English or German. | Contact: Norbert Gillelaan 20 B-1070 Brussels, Belgium Phone: +32-(0)2-520-6586 |
