Tullstugan Collective housing unit
Sweden
The Tullstugan Unit consists of about 50 adults and 20 children and teenagers, constituting a part of a larger inner-city block of 263 flats. The unit is based on the Swedish "self-work model," meaning that members share cooking and the cleaning of common spaces. Cooking in the central kitchen is a precondition for becoming a member. The unit was originally built by the municipal housing company Familjebostäder, but was later sold to the residents. Common spaces include a dining room, a children’s playroom, a TV room, a small guest room, and a common terrace.
