ÖkoLeA - Klosterdorf
Klosterdorf,
Germany
In March 1993, we founded the nonprofit association OekoLeA Klosterdorf Inc. and began to settle on an old local farm.
The old farmhouse is habitable again, and we reconstructed the calf barn to accommodate more private rooms. Both buildings were reconstructed with materials suitable for humans and the environment.
At this point, 20 adults and 11 children between 2 and 69 years old and from eastern and western Germany live together in our communal home. We share the housework and our money and are there for each other by trying to solve problems together.
We are planning to reconstruct the former cow barn in order to build a bakery with a wood-burning stove and a large communal room for seminars, meetings, children's activities, and more. So far, our large barn has been serving as a meeting place in the summertime..Our projects and household needs are paid for out of a common purse, to which everybody contributes half of their individual income.
We try to live in an ecologically responsible way and hope to do our part in keeping the Earth a hospitable place in times to come. In our educational programs, we try to pass on the experiences we have had with each other and our lifestyle to others; we also make use of knowledge and abilities gathered before our time together.
The legal body responsible for our educational work is the nonprofit association OekoLeA--Verein fuer Bildung und Kultur, Oekologie and Gesundheit e.V. Everybody who is interested in what we are doing or would like to support our work can join this association and become a sponsor.
