As a community we're learning to not take ourselves so seriously but God very seriously. An emerging focus among us is urban housing renewal. We've gained many valuable skills from our home renovation and maintenance business that we plan on using to acquire declining properties in economically depressed areas and convert them into low-rent, high-quality, professionally managed housing.
Another exciting, to us at least, project is also emerging at this time. Though we are a young community, we plan to launch a new community in another urban neighborhood close by. Ultimately we'd love to see community houses sprinkled throughout our city in many different neighborhoods.
Our daily life while certainly less exciting than the emerging projects is very rich in relationships, and we focus on following Christ's teachings as fully as we can. It's been fun trying to simplify our lives--less TV, more interaction. Being frugal has also been an adventure as we try to spend less on food costs, for example. We're close to our goal of spending only 50 cents per person per meal.
Cooperative living for us means exploring ways to live creatively and simply. All in all it's been great fun and full of meaning. We have some not so fun stories as well, but we'll share those over coffee when you visit.
