| The Simon Community is a community of volunteers and ex-homeless people attempting to care and campaign for London's homeless. The community caters to those for whom no other adequate provision exists, for whatever reason. This includes providing an emergency night shelter, three residential houses (one a farm), and extensive outreach work.
Anyone spoken to on the streets is considered a member of Simon, however briefly. The community is nonrehabilitative in that we accept that for some people rough sleeping is a valid lifestyle and would not pressure anyone to change this. However, we do our best to provide access to all possible services (e.g., detox) when requested.
The community is run on a group-based structure, with consensus decisions at all levels. The community is a registered charity but does not accept any government funding, as this allows us to remain independent in our policies. Voluntary workers live in a community project, are allowed one day off per week, receive 26 pounds a week and commit themselves to a period of at least three months. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
