| Damanhur is a collective dream transformed into reality thanks to the creative power of positive thought -- a Spiritual EcoCommunity nestled in the hills of Northern Italy that promotes a culture of peace and holistic sustainability through solidarity, respect for the environment, arts and education. The philosophy of Damanhur is based on action, optimism and upon the idea that every human being lives to leave something of themselves to the others and to contribute towards the growth and evolution of the whole of humanity. Life in Action - Action through Play - Play integrated into Life
Damanhur, Federation of Communities comprises many different settlements extending over 1,200 acres of Piedmont’s pristine Valchiusella valley, in the foothills of the Italian Alps. Damanhur has a population of around a thousand citizens, with embassies and supporters in Italy, Europe, Japan and the United States. Founded in 1975, the Federation has its own Constitution, a complementary currency system, a daily paper, art workshops, a medical and science research center, an open University, a school system (from nursery to middle school). The citizens of Damanhur have over 60 businesses and service activities. The majority are cooperatives, offering quality products following ethical and ecological principles.
Every year, thousands of people visit Damanhur to experience the social model and to study the philosophy, but what sets Damanhur apart from other eco and spiritual communities is the Temples of Humankind. Often called the "Eighth Wonder of the World," the Temples were dug by hand from the stone mountain by the people of Damanhur.
Damanhur offers events, activities and seminars all year round. Damanhur and the Temples can be visited for a short time and for longer periods of study, vacation or regeneration.
