| Kitezh is an exciting place, one of a kind in Russia, a community of happiness and joyful refuge for abandoned or orphaned Russian children. Kitezh is a new way of looking at life: It is a living, working community, a spiritual movement of people who build their lives on the principles of harmony, peace, and love. Kitezhans aim to live in harmony with nature. They are warm and openhearted. By serving others, they serve themselves.
Since 1992 Kitezh has functioned as a community of foster families who offer secure homes and schooling for orphaned Russian children. At present seven families with 30 children live 300 kilometers south of Moscow in the Kaluga region on 90 hectares of land. Kitezh is growing fast. They have already built 10 houses, a school, a church, and an organic farm. The Kitezh school is recognized by the state.
Every summer volunteers and students from all over the world come to Kitezh to help with building, gardening, and working with the children. You are welcome!
The Kitezh way of fostering and educating children has already proved a real alternative to state orphanages. One day communities based on the Kitezh model will replace all orphanages in Russia. This is our dream, to give loving homes and a future to all orphan children. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
