Covenant House is a crisis center that provides comprehensive services to homeless and runaway youth under the age of 21.
Faith Community is a full-time volunteer program where people can come for six or twelve months to serve the youth of Covenant House. Placement is available in New York, New York; Atlantic City, New Jersey; Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Detroit, MI; and Anchorage, AK.
Faith Community offers the opportunities of SERVICE, COMMUNITY, and PRAYER/REFLECTION.
SERVICE: Volunteers serve 40 hours per week at Covenant House in regularly scheduled shifts. Volunteers receive training for their service placements and are asked to be open to serving at any site and in any role where Covenant House has the greatest need.
COMMUNITY: Volunteers live in a community setting with typically four to six people per house. Volunteers are diverse in all respects, and range in age from just out of college to retired. Living a simple, healthy, and respectful lifestyle is a focus within our community.
PRAYER/REFLECTION: Volunteers have the opportunity to spend time in daily communal prayer/reflection 30 minutes per day, six days per week. People from all or no faith backgrounds and religious traditions are welcomed and respected.
Faith Community is looking for individuals who are over the age of 21; have a college degree or commensurate life experience; are emotionally mature and in good health; are open, flexible, joyful; are willing to serve at any site and in any position most needed; and are willing to share their volunteer stories with Covenant House.
Benefits provided to volunteers are room and board, a small weekly stipend, medical and dental insurance, vacation time and a vacation stipend, a severance stipend, community retreats, and the opportunity for AmeriCorps Educational Awards.
