| Malu 'Aina (Land of Peace) is the Hawaiian name given to the Center for Nonviolent Education and Action located 10 miles south of the city of Hilo on the island of Hawaii. We are a small-scale, 22-acre agriculturally based, spiritual community committed to justice, peace, and preserving the environment. Established as a nonprofit organization in 1979, permanent residency at Malu 'Aina Farm began in 1981.
Malu 'Aina is located on the slopes of the world's most active volcano. The climate is wet, averaging 175 inches of rain annually. Temperature is normally mild: 75-85º F daytime and 60-70º F nights, although some winter nights can be quite cool with temperatures dropping into the 50s.
Life on the farm involves physical labor and simple living. Our water supply is rain-catchment tanks. We have small-scale solar power and use composting toilets.
At Malu 'Aina we try to live a life of community service by helping people in need of food and through our work for peace, justice, and the environment. We are interested in people who want to make life changes for justice.
