| The Udgaarden was created with intentions of making a practical and social society with special attention to environmental and ecological values.
Our ecological farm, run by ourselves, supplies all beef, pork, mutton, and eggs and nearly all vegetables.
We are neither socialist nor religious by conviction. We are ordinary people avoiding any tendencies toward fundamentalism, be it political, religious, spiritual, sexist, or other. The whiskey we drink is not ecological, but we occasionally drink organic beer or wine, when we come across it.
All grownups have full-time jobs outside the commune. All work--farming and keeping the buildings and everything in order--is done voluntarily. Everyone does the work that interests them the most. This has worked OK for eight years.
In the common house, hot evening meals are served on workdays.
Our houses are low-energy houses, and our heat supply is CO2 neutral: solar panels and a wood-pellet burner. Roof rainwater is filtered and used for toilets and the common laundry.
We are open to visitors who make arrangements in advance. Major groups will be charged 300 dkr./$50. We cannot offer stay or work. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
