Kookaburra Park Eco-Village is situated just 2.5 km from a small township called Gin Gin on the main highway north (Bruce Highway) in Queensland. We are about 360 km north of Brisbane and the closest major city is Bundaberg. We are about 48 km from Bundaberg. Kookaburra Park has been developing for the past 10 years in stages. The concept is that on the 485-acre parcel, it has a potential of 124 one-acre lots that are owned as freehold and the surrounding land is owned in common by the lot holders. The design and layout of the lots in the Park has been done using permaculture principles and it runs under a piece of legislation in Queensland called the Body Corporate and Community Management Act. If you know Crystal Waters Permaculture Village then you will understand the concept. Kookaburra Park Eco-Village was designed by Max Lindegger and his staff, the same people who designed Crystal Waters. We created Kookaburra Park as a form of sustainable development that we hoped would appeal to mainstream people that want to belong to a community as well as having some ecological awareness. So far we have developed some 80 or so lots and have 38 homes built. We have a real cross-section of people living at the Park at present, with lots of kids.
