| We are a rural community of individuals and families who support each other emotionally and physically while striving to live lightly on the land. We are a co-op where the members own all of the land and buildings together and each member owns shares in the co-op and their own house (not the land). We have a commitment to affordable housing, so there is a cap on profit from resale of members' homes to avoid gentrification. We make decisions by soft consensus. We work a lot together on community projects and on each other's homes. We share tools, childcare, food, ritual, games, and music. Our houses are all either recycled, i.e., moved onto the farm from elsewhere, or owner-built. We have a fabulous, completely environmentally friendly straw bale house built by one of our members.
We are slowly working toward sustainability. As of July 2006, we have a big community garden, chickens, and fishes in one of our two ponds, and we'll soon have some goats.
We have three or four more sites open for new members to build on, and we also have a farmhouse for sale for new members. There are also possibilities of renting. We're open to anyone; we do hope to attract more young families with children. There are five families/members that stay most of the time in the community; the rest still work off the farm, but we are moving toward generating income from farm-based enterprises. Our politics are left-wing and anti-materialist. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
