Skyhouse Community
Rutledge, Missouri,
United States
As part of the Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage (see separate listing), Skyhouse strives to be a model of ecological living. We are an income-sharing community, and our money and resources are held in common. Members do a variety of tasks, and new folks are plugged in to existing projects and businesses or can bring jobs and ideas with them. We are committed to nonviolence, egalitarianism, and the breakdown of culturally constructed gender roles. We meet as a group to make decisions by consensus, resolve conflicts, and help each other work through life's challenges.
On a summer evening you might find us coming together after a hard day's work. Some folks come in from the gardens, while others have been building our straw-bale homes, doing computer work, or giving a tour of our village. Members, friends, and visitors gather at the community table, while the day's cook puts the finishing touches on dinner. After a delicious meal offering homemade bread and tofu, homegrown veggies, and home-brewed beer, folks gather for a sing-along or sit and joke about the day's events. The end of the day brings another brilliant sunset shining its golden light over the nearby pond and far-off rolling hills.
Does this sound too good to be true? Arrange a visit to see for yourself. We are actively seeking new members, so come add your unique perspective and energetic pioneering spirit to our tight-knit group.
