Maison Emmanuel Inc. is an intentional, life sharing community based on Anthroposophy, and modeled on the Camphill Communities existing worldwide. We are app. 50 people (including 24 children, adolescents and adults in need of special care) living and working together in the beautiful Laurentian mountains, 100 km (60 miles) north of Montreal.
House parents, together with their children and young coworkers live in family-like settings. The rhythmic structure of the household, school, workshops (bakery, candle-making, small farm, garden, weaving, woodwork) and therapies creates the warm, supportive environment of community living. Shared meals, seasonal festivals, plays, birthday celebrations and outings, help create bonds of friendship and responsibility where everyone learns to care and provide for the need of the others.
A program of expansion and integration has started in the center of a nearby town with 2 adult residences and our bakery with a boutique for Maison Emmanuel's crafts.
Training for new coworkers and a foundation course is provided. Many people from different countries live at Maison Emmanuel. The languages spoken within the community are app. 2/3 English and 1/3 French. The surrounding community speaks mostly French.
