Hidden away on five private acres in sunny southwest Florida, GYMNOS is a naturist and clothing optional farm commune and retreat in formation. A spacious house, studio, garage workshop, post and beam barn, open pasture, citrus grove, vegetable garden and nature trails all support a dream of healthy, land-based self-sufficiency. GYMNOS is on its way to becoming a small communal farm for those who want to live in harmony with nature, share resources and ideas and live free of clothes. Already we've had several interested visitors and overnight guests and the garden is producing fruit, vegetables and herbs that are used daily at the dinner table. Check out the website for photos and more information.

(We are very welcoming of visitors, especially gay and bi-curious, and those who want to give naturism a try. We have space for camping or small RV's and also several rooms in the house and studio.)
Visitor Process: Please visit our website for more information. There's a contact form you can use on the visit page, or you can email us directly from IC here.
Statement of Housing Non-discrimination:
Our community does not discriminate in regards to housing based on race/color, national origin, religion, sex/gender, family status (i.e. having children, not having children, or being pregnant), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, source of income, age, creed, personal appearance, political affiliation, HIV infection, military/veteran status, unfavorable military discharge, gender identity or expression, receiving public assistance, or being the victim of domestic abuse.
Members(adults and children):
(At the moment there are two adults living here full-time. A third comes for several weeks at a time when he can get away from work on the west coast. We can accommodate up to 6 people, depending on their room/bed needs, but there's also plenty of space for teepees, tents or small RV's on the grounds.)
(It varies since we have visitors who come for the day, and some who participate in work and life here at Gymnos for a week or more.)
Open to new members:
(Very much so as long as the basic orientation toward naturism, kindness, cooperation and respect for the earth are observed. Each incoming member will be on a sort of trial or probationary basis for the first six months with a review by all concerned after three and then again at six.)
(Haven't reached this stage yet.)
(Founder and group leader, but always one vote among all on matters that affect us all. Matters affecting the land and buildings which are the property of the owner/founder are open to ideas and suggestion but ultimately the owner's decision.)
Labor and Money
Partial income sharing
Open to Members with Pre-existing Debt:
(Expenses, income and labor are shared by all. There is a minimum expectation of 15 hours per week on common goals.)
(A one-time join fee of $1000 is expected and will become non-refundable after the six-month probationary period is over.)
(Yes, but based on the commune's expenses and not on pre-set fees.)
Land and Buildings
(On the edge between the city and large agricultural holdings.)
5 acres (2.0 hectares)
(Surrounded by county and other peaceful, undeveloped land.)
Land Owned By:
Individual community member(s)
(The founder owns the land and buildings, but with room for moderate expansion.)
Number of Residences:
(but with two other adaptable structures and permission from the county to build up to 800 sq. ft. Room to camp or park RV's and currently space, comfortably, for up to 6 persons in the house and studio.)
(No, as it aims to be truly communal. But many things about certain styles of co-housing pertain to Gymnos plans and ethos.)
Percentage of Food Grown:
(Dream is to become at least 80's self sufficient.)
Share Community Meals:
Nearly all dinners
(Growing fruit and vegetables is important here and eating together is a natural, almost spiritual extension of that.)
Dietary Choice or Restrictions:
Diet is up to each individual
(The owner/founder is a former cook and caterer and has been comfortable with vegetarian and healthy, light meat based cuisines.)
(but sometimes the craving for a little organic steak on the barbecue is just too much to resist......)
(Daily, but with respect and moderation.)
(Up to each member, but no smoke is allowed at any time in any indoor space.)
Common Spiritual Practices:
(However, the hope is that periodic gatherings would allow us to explore our spiritual journeys and the essence of being. No tradition prevails except respect for nature, and the founder/leader is primarily atheist.)
