Loblolly Greenway Cohousing (LGC)
Gainesville, Florida,
United States
Sketch of property
LGC is a 3 acre site situated in a densely wooded area in the population center of Gainesville, Florida, near the intersection of NW 34th Street and University Avenue. Adjacent to the East is the Hogtown Creek Greenway, a major community amenity. We are two blocks from a major shopping center, three block from the University of Florida, three blocks form Littlewood Elementary School and nine blocks from Westwood Middle School. The site already has two single family homes. The final size of LGC is unspecified at this time but will likely consist of 10-20 families. Gainesville and Alachua County are leaders in sustainable development. At LGC this will be reflected in solar power generation for community use and export, organic gardening and composting operations, rain water conservation for grey water usages and a community dinning hall, activity center and laundry. LGC governance is initially by an executive committee of the two existing families. Governance will evolve as the community grows and matures. The target date for the opening of the community is 2014-2015.
