Bowen Island, British Columbia, Vancouver,
Canada
(20 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay, Vancouver)
A few of us!
Belterra Cohousing is 60% sold! Our vision of sustainable island living has captured the imagination of a diverse group of people, from 9-year old Sam (son of Kat and Cam) to retired UBC professor Paul. We are drawn to the outdoor splendor of Bowen Island, as well as our commitment to environmental stewardship and cooperative decision-making.
If you visit the Belterra Cohousing Website, you can learn more about the talents and interests of our members (“Who We Are”), find out about the next Belterra informational meeting, and see renderings of the five buildings that will grace our 10 acres with 30 energy-efficient homes overlooking Howe Sound and the Canadian Coast Range. http://www.belterracohousing.ca
Or, find us on Facebook and sign up for our monthly eNewsletter.
By Summer 2013, we will watch the the bare slope sprout with the first signs of construction, with completion anticipated by Summer or Fall 2014. At meetings, we find ourselves laughing a lot and enjoying the process of designing a community that includes community gardens, a common house, a greenhouse, a workshop and community service. The homes and other facilities are BuiltGreen standard and all have in-floor radiant heat. Each household may have up to "eight legs" for pets - that is two dogs, two cats, or one of each. There is a fairly strict non-smoking policy and we can rent our units, but are hoping to attract full-time residents who want to be partners in creating a culture of community.
The Belterra Mission Statement: To create and sustain an evolving community that embraces respect for a diverse group of ecologically accountable and socially responsible people.
