Belterra Cohousing is more than 75% sold! Our vision of sustainable island living (just outside of Vancouver in British Columbia) has captured the imagination of a diverse group of people, from 9-year old Sam (son of Kat and Cam) to retired UBC professor Paul. We are drawn to the outdoor splendor of Bowen Island, as well as our commitment to environmental stewardship and cooperative decision-making.
If you visit the Belterra Cohousing Website, you can learn more about the talents and interests of our members (“Who We Are”), find out about the next Belterra informational meeting, and see renderings of the five buildings that will grace our 10 acres with 30 energy-efficient homes overlooking Howe Sound and the Canadian Coast Range. http://www.belterracohousing.ca

In November, the bare slope began to sprout with the first signs of construction. Completion of the first of our five residential buildings is expected by November 2014.
At meetings, we find ourselves laughing a lot and enjoying the process of designing a community that includes community gardens, a 3,500 sf common house, greenhouse, workshop and children's play areas. The homes and other facilities are BuiltGreen to Gold standard and have in-floor radiant heat. Each household may have up to "eight legs" for pets - that is two dogs, two cats, or one of each. There is a fairly strict non-smoking policy. We can rent our units, but aim to create a stable, imaginative and interesting community of families (and individuals) who will be partners in creating a culture of community.
The Belterra Mission Statement: To create and sustain an evolving community that embraces respect for a diverse group of ecologically accountable and socially responsible people.
Status: under construction
Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses)
