Radical organization for organic teaching and sustainability
We are a consensus based community with the intention of using our current living space as a transitional area for education. The mission of ROOTS is to establish a self sustaining community, independent from resources locked into capital gain. We hold anarchist traditions very close to our hearts and encourage individual expression, but expect mutual respect and understanding as we learn to appreciate the world, each other, and ourselves.
Our current property maxes out at approximately 10 occupants. We inhabit a very small amount of land in which we are reclaiming to provide a catalog of examples to show how one can begin to be sustainable within the confines of their urban setting. We have created a variety of gardens including but not limited to raised garden beds, wicking beds, lasagna gardens, hugelkultur, a gutter garden, and a tee pee garden. We make our own compost and will soon be actively pursuing the construction of an aquaponics system as well as renewable energy sources.
We currently have 15 chickens, 2 dogs and 2 cats living at the property. Animals, even people, are welcome as long as they are friendly. We hold community with the highest regards and with knowledge that our lifestyles and decisions deeply affect those around us; we aim for open exchange of ideas and emotions to better understand the journey.
