Eight Limbs Housing Cooperative
Milwaukee, Wisconsin,
United States
Eight Limbs is a housing cooperative based on the practice and exploration of yoga principles.
OUR MISSION
Eight Limbs serves as a model of intentional living by fostering personal growth and community empowerment through sustainable practices.
Currently we can house 5 members with shared kitchen and baths. Room rates with utilities and food are about $350.
Our members intend to:
• Create an intentional community based on the principles of yoga: nonviolence, truth, non-coveting, moderation, and non-materialism.
• Share resources, responsibilities, and meals, while living sustainably in an urban community.
• Be a multi-racial, multi-generational household.
• Grow our own food without chemicals in community gardens.
• Provide a gathering place, a learning center, and a model of sustainability for our neighborhood.
OUR MISSION
Eight Limbs serves as a model of intentional living by fostering personal growth and community empowerment through sustainable practices.
OUR GOALS
• We strive to live consciously, applying the principles and practices of yoga.
• We recognize the sacred value of all resources and relate to them as mindfully as possible, celebrating the earth's abundance responsibly. We embrace the ethics of permaculture: earth care (environmental stewardship), people care, and fair share (social and economic justice).
• We commit to build a socially-rich household, especially diverse in age, race, religion, and sexual orientation.
• We embrace cooperative principles and commit to educating the community about co-ops. We will support other cooperative projects.
• We strive to eat healthful, locally and sustainably grown food.
• We embrace practices that promote clarity of mind and interpersonal relations, which may include substance-free living, reduced media use, practice of yoga asana and pranayama, and meditation.
• We will create a financial model based on economic justice which provides cooperative living especially for low and moderate income individuals.
• We are dedicated to strengthening the fabric of community by building trusting and respectful relationships with each other, our neighbors, and the wider community.
