Krishna House of Gainesville
Gainesville's Krishna House was established in 1971 by a young student couple who had turned their apartment into a peaceful place for students to practice bhakti (devotional) yoga. In 1989 we moved to our current location at 214 NW 14th St. Today the center is home to the Bhakti Academy, an experiential program catered to those interested in practicing bhakti yoga within a spiritual community. We openly welcome full or part-time university students as well, and offer a very flexible schedule in such cases.
Bhakti Academy students live at Krishna House for one to two semesters while learning the foundational principles and practices of bhakti. Students study ancient Vedic scriptures, including the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-bhagavatam, and practice mantra meditation, vegetarian cooking, devotional music, and Sanskrit. Krishna House residents also learn invaluable community living skills, organic gardening, composting, restaurant/kitchen management skills, and vegetarian cooking.
In exchange for tuition, room & board, Bhakti Academy students organize fun local events, assist in temple programs, help maintain the temple/ashram facilities, and serve Krishna Lunch at the University of Florida,
Krishna Lunch is the main community service operation at Krishna House. We are a volunteer-based program that has been serving healthy vegetarian meals to UF students and the larger Gainesville community for over FOUR decades!!!
Krishna Lunch is strictly vegetarian (no meat, no fish, no eggs) and always includes full vegan options. With a $4 donation, you will be served as much Krishna Lunch as your belly can handle. While UF is in session, Krishna Lunch is served on campus, Monday through Friday, from 11AM to 1:30PM at the Plaza of the Americas. In addition, Krishna Lunch is served from noon to 4PM on the Krishna House front porch, just one block north of campus.
We invite you to check us out and feed your soul!
