| This quiet Christian community is nestled in the hills south of Liberty,KY in South Central Kentucky. It is filled with simple living, modest, off-grid folks from all over the country. Many various Anabaptist Churches including Charity, Holderman Mennonite, BSA, Horse and Buggy Mennonites, and several other non-conformists have congregated here to form one of the loveliest communities in Kentucky.
The area is one of the least populated areas in the Northeast quadrant of the States. It has low taxes, virtually no government regulations, and very inexpensive land. And with a recent decision by one of the Mennonite churches to start another community, many farms and homesteads are available now with many more for sale in the very near future.
Having been established now for over 30 years it is a fairly prosperous area for rural Kentucky. It has a hardware store, general store, large bulk food store, and several greenhouses. It also has a feed store, bike store, and many produce sellers. Just opened are a new butcher shop, produce auction house, and furniture store.
The land consists of flat bottom farm land along creeks and streams and flat wide ridge tops divided by rugged forested hillsides. This configuration allows easy bike transportation all along the bottoms and the ridges with only significant climbs and descents between the two. Many in the area travel by bike, buggy, and atv. Most of the stores are centrally located for easy access.
Many of the area residents live off-grid by powering their homes and appliances with solar, gas, and even horse power. The more conservative Mennonites account for the bulk of the small farms. These Mennonites are decent hard working people with home-based businesses. Some of these businesses consist of sawmills, cheese makers, fabric and seamstresses, small engine repair shops, manufacturing, and produce farming.
This is a unique area and is well fitted for anyone of similar beliefs and lifestyle goals. Most of the people here would welcome others that can fit in and help encourage one another through the coming hard times. Though the individual churches are tightly knit in the community, the overall group allows for enough freedom that all seem to be able to get along well with one another.
If you have similar ideas and want to live closer to like-minded individuals with similar beliefs and lifestyles, come and help us live quietly and more sustainably.
