This community will be unlike any other of it’s type. I know that many of us share the belief that if we are to survive and thrive in the future changes that may face us, we must live more simply and work together in the new paradigm. Please take a moment to consider these ideas, and if you find that this vision for the future resonates with you, I ask you to join me. I need people to help organize and plan the many aspects of this project. We will need grant writers, contractors, and people with expertise in sustainable energy sources, food production, and alternative health care. The time is now.
The type of houses I believe would be optimal for this project are underground geodesic buildings. These homes are extremely energy efficient, as they maintain an almost constant temperature. They create increased space for growing food sources, as the roof is covered in soil. They are fire resistant, and a shelter from severe weather. Water runoff can be collected easily and recirculated. The possibilities are endless.
This community would be ideal for various alternative energy sources. These would include but are not limited to solar, wind power, and the manufacture of biodesiel to fuel the vehicles in the community. These could also potentially be a source of income for the community.
The idea for the creation of this community stemmed from my parents and their friends joking with me that I will have to move them all together to care for them in their old age, as none of them have retirement savings to fall back on. The idea got me thinking...why not? Families used to live together in extended multi-generational communities. Our modern society has moved away from this model, to our determent. Each generation has so much to share with one another, that can give each member a sense of purpose and meaning. It is my hope that the elderly members of the community can mentor the children and teens.
Part of the care of community members will include access to various alternative health care modalities which include massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care, yoga, and midwifery. This community will be capable of caring for each other in each stage of life.
As previously mentioned, the houses provide increased space for growing food. In addition ideally there would be a pond for talapia. We could also raise chickens, as well as goats for milk production. I realize that not all members may share ideas on diet, but they can participate as they see fit.
