Goshen Community
Columbia, South Carolina,
United States
Fr. James
The Goshen Community is formed as a safe-haven or city of refuge for weary, worn, weak and wounded Christian sheep and shepherds. Goshen is an ecumenical (across the body of Christ) Christian community. Holistic healing is the heart of Goshen and rest, renewal, restoration and reconciliation are means to healing practiced. Covenant Members of the community will reside with those they care for in Goshen Place. Goshen Place has yet to be established, hence, Goshen is in the process of formation. Covenant Members will observe a Rule of Life and renounce property and share a common life centered in prayer and worship. Community Members will not reside in Goshen Place, however, they will also observe the Rule of Life and may worship together with the Covenant Members and residents of Goshen Place. Both Covenant and Community Members may be employed outside of Goshen Place. Most of the Covenant Members of Goshen will be self-sustaining, either by retirement or active employment. All members of Goshen Community will function together collaboratively to provide for the holistic healing of those they care for. A Mother House will be established within Goshen Place, as well as a chapel, refrectory (kitchen and cafeteria), education building, gym, lodge (retreat center), tabernacle, barn, and other buildings. Presently, the Covenant Members of Goshen are seeking to establish Partners-in-Ministry relationships with other Christian ministries that hold parallel values and have similar goals. Goshen seeks to partner into these other ministries as well as for the other ministries to partner into Goshen. Goshen will serve as an 'undergirding' ministry to the Christian church as well as a 'bridge' across the church. Goshen will provide crisis response to communities in crisis, as well as equipping to local clergy in such communities. Goshen seeks to provide proactive 'radical discipleship' (Christianity: 701) and re-training to Christians, clergy in particular. Spiritual guidance, pastoral counseling, clinical pastoral education, and healing prayer are some of the modalities of care that will be provided. Goshen is a 501(c)(3) "faith based initiative."
