Simple Joys
Lake Buchanan, Texas,
United States
Simple Joys is a small co-housing community located on the shores of Lake Buchanan about 70 miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. Some of our neighbors include Canyon of the Eagles Park, Vanishing Texas River Cruise and Rainbow Hearth Nature Lodge, all of whom have web sites that may provide helpful pictures and information about this largely wilderness area with abundant wildlife.
Simple Joys is a place to enjoy solitude, nature and friendship. Healthful and creative living are the main themes. Currently there is one large home and two smaller cottages as well as a small commons that form a developed complex in one corner of the property. This area also has a pier and the dry docking system for the MacGregor26 sailboat, as well as a basketball court, gardens, and a long beach with other watercraft such as kyak catamaran, canoe, windsurfer, row boat.
Gardening, sailing, hiking, forest maintenance, cooking and music are some of the common activities we enjoy sharing. Opportunities arise for productive fellowship in respect to creative endeavors in the arts and in health.
Options exist to rent a waterfront cottage depending on availability, for 350-750 per month. There may also be availability of private suites in the main lodge for a more communal life style. Some folks reside at Simple Joys as a part-time home, a retreat from city life in Austin or San Antonio, and some folks live here as a main residence. For use as a main residence the maximum occupancy is 2. Options exist to purchase a building site either independently or within a land trust structure. Because this is a waterfront community in a very desirable area the basic land values are much higher than otherwise and therefore probably not an advisable choice for anyone who seeks the most economical land investment. However for anyone who strongly desires to be located in an area like this, the potential for economic advantages provided by a co-housing land trust partnership is very appreciable.
Additionally we are interested in acquiring a Simple Joys location in the mountains of New Mexico within a day's drive to have a high altitude, cool climate, alternative to summers in Texas, as well as winter snow recreation use for those so inclined.
We welcome your interest.
