CALGARY, Alberta,
Canada
We're called "Sabbath House" we believe that Sabbath is not rest from activity... it's rest from COnflict - which means we're all about conflict resolution, whether that is conflict with each other, with ourselves, with our God, with other races, genders, social status', etc ... we strive to face the conflict in order to have Sabbath.
We are just starting out - about 2 years into living communally. We had a rough start - 3/6 founding members moving on, but we learned very valuable lessons from this. We are a christian community intent on living in 'abandoned places' (i.e. communities where most ppl in our city are trying to AVOID...) we befriend our ACTUAL neighbours and practice 'radical hospitality' - i.e inviting those who are usually turned away to live with us. We're currently blessed to live with a mom and her 6 yr old son who are currently refugees. WE like to think of ourselves as being intentionally and radically anti-consumerism, striving to live simply and buy second-hand only (or meet the person who actually made the product and thank them to their face). We believe in radical stewardship of the earth, relationship based social activism (as in loving the poor, instead of buying distance from them), JUSTICE (i.e. we're pacifist, anti-consumerism),...email us or come visit us and we'll tell you anything you'd like to know!
