In addition to the farm a living technology museum is being considered to explain the history and environmental impact of various technologies that are essential to a self-sustaining community. This will include things like making textiles and clothing; blacksmithing, shoemaking, barrel making, et cetera.
The community will be a not-for-profit organization. Any income that the community generates will be re-invested in the community or paid out as employee/director salaries.
The community will have 3 levels of membership. You can sign on as an employee and trade your labor for room and board and eventually receive a salary based on the community’s income. You can also simply rent the community’s land and facilities and operate as an independent farmer or craftsman. Persons seeking a position on the board of directors will have to invest at least $5,000 in the community’s infrastructure and provide three years of labor.
The Green Menagerie will be a family oriented community. Christians are preferred for membership, but Bible-thumping will be discouraged. Membership will be open to all regardless of race or national origin. Tobacco will be forbidden and alcohol will be allowed only in moderation and will be limited to what the community itself can produce.
