Wildflower Ecovillage
Dallas east rural, Texas,
United States
An ecovillage community is forming east of Dallas. We will locate in a rural area of reasonable commuting distance to Dallas-Fort Worth. Our purposes are food/water security and community.
We grow all or most of our own food. Those who wish to earn some income from the land will also grow food to sell to others.
Homes: Our homes are affordable, super energy efficient, zero-energy with solar electricity, solar hot water, and rainwater harvesting. Everyone owns their own home. The ecovillage is laid out following Permaculture principles and practices.
Water: Our water is secure. We have three forms of water: Rainwater harvesting for home use, well(s) from a clean aquifer for irrigation, and a pond for recreation and irrigation. If all else fails, we are near several surface lakes that are water reservoirs for DFW.
Community: This is a community with diversity of ages, races, and religions. There is both a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian section with sharing of many features. There is no sharing of income per se, but those farmers who wish to do so may work together to create and market a CSA.
Farming: We farm organically via Permaculture to grow produce and grains. We also have fruit and nut trees. Those who wish have chickens for eggs, manure, and pest control, but there is no slaughter of chickens or other animals in the community. They die a natural death in this compassionate community.
Land: We will buy land in 2012 in order to start working the land. Building in 2012 is not required, though.
Learning and Training: 2011 and 2012 we will learn, learn, learn and then learn some more. Look for classes and hands-on experience in topics such as organic farming, growing fruits and vegetables, green building, Permaculture, solar hot water, solar electricity, drip irrigation, rain water harvesting and many homesteading skills.
