| We are an Christian intentional community located in the Edgehill neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. We are anchored by Edgehill United Methodist Church, which began as a house church in 1966. The church has committed itself to racial reconciliation and service with the urban poor. Our community builds upon the church's rich legacy of justice-seeking, community building, and faithfulness to Jesus Christ in the city. We draw from Methodist spirituality, new monasticism, and other sources to re-imagine Christian community in Edgehill.
In May 2011, we will begin to a residential and non-residential community for three purposes: to build authentic relationships with Edgehill neighbors, to welcome young adults into the life of Edgehill UMC, and to form and host a new sister congregation.
Our life together will be guided by a covenant that is currently being drafted. This covenenant will help us to live into the United Methodist membership vow to be loyal to Jesus Christ through the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness.
Residents of the community commit themselves to a one or two year period. Non-resident members of the community share in the common life by adopting the practices and disciplines of the covenant used by residents.
A few practices that will be a part of the community's life include common meals, participation in the neighborhood ministries of Edgehill UMC, and regular prayer using the newly published Common Prayer: a Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals. | Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses) |
