A New Urban Monastery
Cincinnati, Ohio,
United States
A group of Catholic-inspired Christians over 55 in Cincinnati OH are meeting to create "A New Urban Monastery." Emulating the prayer, shared living and social justice traditions of the many rich religious congregations that surround us, we are forming scattered site shared homes of 5 to 8 people in the urban Walnut Hills, East Walnut Hills and Evanston communities along Victory Parkway between Eden Park and Xavier University. The purpose is a happy and holy shared life, eco-friendly stewardship, service to our neighbors, hospitality and prayer. We want to be happy and productive. We are humble and grateful servants of the Lord. We are not fundamentalists, just devoted disciples.

Statement of Housing Non-discrimination:
Our community fits the legal definition of "housing for older persons" * and thus we may restrict membership/residency to those of a certain age and may have limits on child membership/residency in accordance with the law. Our community does not discriminate based on race/color, national origin, religion, sex/gender, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, source of income, creed, personal appearance, political affiliation, HIV infection, military/veteran status, unfavorable military discharge, gender identity or expression, receiving public assistance, or domestic abuse.

Because our housing is a single housing unit and requires the sharing of bathroom, kitchen and common space membership/residency may be restricted based on sex/gender in accordance with the law. Our community does not discriminate based on race/color, national origin, religion, family status (i.e. having children, not having children, or being pregnant), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, ancestry, source of income, age, creed, personal appearance, political affiliation, HIV infection, military/veteran status, unfavorable military discharge, gender identity or expression, receiving public assistance, or domestic abuse.

Our community is a legally sanctioned church or religious organization and living in our community is restricted to members of that religion as allowed by law. Our religion does not discriminate based on race, color, or national origin. Housing in our community is non-commercial (i.e. not intended to make a profit).
