WVC members explore the design process with development professionals
Wissahickon Village emphasizes sustainable cohousing design that is integrated with the thoughtful use of resources and social integration with the wider community. Home designs will focus on green building technologies and materials such as low VOC paints, sustainable bamboo floors, metal roofs, wood from sustainable reforested locations, green kitchen cabinets, energy efficient windows, light fixtures and plumbing fixtures.
Other sustainable design features for the project would include investigating the use of passive solar concepts, geo–thermal heat as well as thermal solar for domestic hot water and photo voltaic options for electric integrated into the design concepts for present or future applications.
Developing a social and physical network that encourages creating a community for all ages will be part of the focus and design intent. Sustainable landscaping will be designed to enhance solar shading and community interaction opportunities through out the site; as well as opportunities for urban gardening.
We began membership in December 2010, and currently have 11 Full and 10 Associate Members. We're growing, seeking new members, and investors.
