Inspiring Solidarity
Skattungbyn, Orsa,
Sweden
We have a vision to build a holistic community based on honesty, tolerance, cooperation, creativity, health, personal development, ecological sustainability and a sound economy.
We want to show tolerance and protect the diversity among us, rejecting discrimination on the basis of race, religion, culture, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc. Our common denominator will be having the wellbeing of the planet as our goal.
We want to foster humans' natural ability to cooperate by creating an environment of honesty, conscious values and empathetic communication, always striving to resolve conflicts by using effective approaches, and working on our personal development and group dynamics.
We seek a high degree of interaction, members should feel involved in the community, help each other, share knowledge and learn from each other. We seek to balance traditional and experimental learning, and also the spiritual, practical and cultural activities.
We want the community to run its own child care service, and if there are enough children, also its own school.
To us, a holistic conception of health includes freedom from drugs. The community should be located in a low-radiation area and avoid wireless technology. Given the effects of our diet choices on our health, the environment and animal welfare, we choose a vegan or vegetarian diet.
Our goal is to diminish our "ecological footprint" so we do not use more than our fair share of the only available Earth, by being as self-sufficient as possible and striving to reduce our dependence on nuclear power and fossil fuels.
The community should have access to sufficient land to cover its needs for farmland and firewood, as well as buildable land for future expansion. The community should be debt-free, and preferably own its land. We think that a non-profit association or foundation is the most appropriate form of ownership.
We can consider different income sources for community members, both within the community (training courses, sale of handicrafts and processed agricultural products...) and external jobs. Members may be responsible for a smaller or greater amount of work, this can be compensated with exchange using a local currency.
We are living together since September 2011, right now in Sweden, but we are considering other possible locations, mainly in Portugal, Spain, France or Italy.

Community location is placed at the center of the zip/postal code, city/state, or city/country (not based on street addresses)
