Shikata Zendo/ Zen Center
Licking, Missouri,
United States
(You can camp on the property if you want to help us build. This serene country is perfect for meditation!)
The Shikata Zendo and Zen center is a nonprofit Buddhism organization that incorporates the teachings of Zen, Mahayana and Pure land Buddhism into one way of life. We teach the Dharma as Buddha said it and we teach the Buddhist student to find their own path and only rely on the teachings of the Buddha not on false doctrines. We are not a religious organization, in fact Buddhism is not a religious way of life. The Shikata Zendo lives life according to the principals of Zen, every aspect of daily life is done with mindfulness. From the moment the Zen Center awakens till the moment they sleep everything they do is devoted to perfection, mindful living is the basis of the Zendo. The Shikata Zendo is dedicated to living a better way of life, more healthy, organic, natural and holistic as possible. Included in this way of life is traditional homesteading, in fact the physical Shikata Zen Center is a homesteading Zen community where all members of the Zendo live, work, practice and play together. We welcome new members to the Zendo and we offer retreats from a weekend up to three months.
The actual Zendo building is under development and will be a more permanent physical place in the near future. But we currently offer Dharma classes, meditation sessions and classes, herbalism advice and information, holistic ways of living advice and information, mini retreats, online instruction and yearly spiritual pilgrimage events. All instruction is currently available online also. The Zendo can also get you free Buddhist study materials if you contact us directly. Chanting machines, books, bookmarks, mala beads, Buddha and Bodhisattva images, CD's and DVD's are what is available for free. The Shikata Zendo also can provide you with herbal medicines and teas made by Venerable Retsuzen Shikata first hand at the Zen Center Hojo to aid you in a more healthy, organic and holistic lifestyle. Contact the Zendo through email for pricing and orders or any questions.
If you would like to become a permanent member of the Zendo family please and live on site with us then contact us and tell us why you would like to be apart of our way of life. We will gladly consider all requests and all requests will be responded to usually within a 24 hour period.
