The EdenWild Concept
Muskoka region, Ontario,
Canada
A view along the valley -- EdenWild
After a 1-year "dry run" to test the dynamics of creating a 100-acre "mini-community" in the heart of Ontario's Muskoka region, we learned a great deal about the next steps in making that community work. Although "under wraps" for the last half of 2011, we will re-open the project in early 2012, with participants able to sustain their own individual housing there.
The project is open to those seeking a lifestyle that is less dependent on an oil-based economy and more into the vibrancy of living independently, off-grid, and yet technologically versatile.
People who are comfortable with a Leave-No-Trace kind of lifestyle, hoping to approach a zero-carbon-footprint way of life, are welcome to learn more about what is offered here.
Technological awareness and a keen interest in world current events has given a number of people very strong indicators that major societal, infrastructural, cultural and political shifts are accelerating towards a critical juncture... (see graph in pix).
For the same reason you get off the tracks when you hear a distant rumble of a train, we are merely creating a comfortable, secure and versatile community that, IF things take a turn for the worst, will remain a safe, enjoyable place to live. If things do NOT get worse, then... we will be living in a safe, enjoyable place.
The land is purchased, construction has begun. It is forested over 90% of the total property; the remainder is a huge pond, some cliffs, caves, etc.
Organic food can be grown onsite, and expected to become a major resource. Plans are to add other small resources in aviculture (chickens), an apiary, greenhouse, recreational area, etc. as time, effort and finances permit.
A small area is set aside to allow recreational camping for the general public, in attractive, pristinely forested areas.
The main chalet/cabin is 1/3 complete. Several residence cabins/tiny-homes are to be built to supply accommodation for participants.
Solar power units are being installed, and a wind power generator planned for next year.
