Laurel Nest
Mills River, North Carolina,
United States
We started our community about 4-5 years ago, and it is an act of faith everyday. We have about 4.5 acres of woods, with several yurts, a few community spaces and "bedroom yurts" scattered throughout the woods. Our goal is to live sustainably, and ultimately grow our food and create our power. We are still a long way from this...
For now, we have a large community garden, and various sustainable building projects that keep us busy. Besides that, we have a yurt company, Laurel Nest Yurts (laurelnest.com), down the road from our community, where we work. Community members help out at Laurel Nest Yurts or participate in sustainable projects out on the land.
We practice yoga, enjoy nature, and healthy local organic foods... we enjoy sharing space and making progress towards making the land more beautiful and sustainable.
We are open to short and long term members, and ultimately would like to live with hard working, like minded people. Our only rules are that the place serves as a source of inspiration, and that everyone who lives with us participates at a high level.
