Kibeti Ecovillage
Kibeti,
Congo, The Democratic Republic of The
Kimbedi River
Kibeti is the DR Congo's first ecovillage. Comprised of 13 villages, over 20,000 operate the Kibeti ecovillage, which is located in the Bandundu Province in the remote countryside of the Congo.
Kibeti as a whole is made up of refugees and displaced people who fled the violence and disease that plague other areas of the Congo. Together, the people have formed the ecovillage with the help of the Jatukik Providence Foundation and the Earth Rights Institute. Both NGOs have sent trained volunteers to help the people improve their livelihood, even helping them to build a medical clinic in this remote area of the Congo.
Kibeti encourages a strong sense of community, ensuring that many of the beautiful cultural traditions from this area, are passed on from generation to generation.
We are hoping to expand the success of the Kibeti ecovillage throughout the Congo and Central Africa.
