The Tribe of Gaea
Omaha, Nebraska,
United States
(No physical presence yet established)
In the Tribe of Gaea, we remember that we are children of Mother Earth.
You see, as a species, we have become wayward adolescents, forgetting the lessons she taught us in our evolutionary childhood. We have become smart-alec teenagers, who ignore our Mother, have decided we know best, and have gone our own way.
And now we are lost children, in permanent conflict with ourselves. Since the dawn of the Agricultural Era, violence, abuse, war, disease, famine, poverty, depression, anxiety, illnesses of the mind and spirit, and an endless litany of woe on our nightly news have become our status-quo.
Within the Tribe of Gaea, we choose to follow the lessons learned in our pre-agricultural past: Like our distant ancestors, we live in a close-knit tribal community, sharing resources, providing and caring for each other, and taking on the challenge of helping individuals fulfill the full spectrum of their human needs.
Physiological (survival)needs are provided to all by the community. Security needs are strongly supported. Social needs for friendships, familial and sexual connections are carefully facilitated. Opportunities for education and achievement are plentifully afforded. Finally, a rich spiritual life and creative environment are promoted.
Skills in non-violent communication, compassionate self-expression and empathy are taught and practiced daily. Effective personal boundaries and limits are taught and encouraged.
We follow the principles of "fierce egalitarianism", or sharing of resources.
We follow a pre-agrarian diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, and free-range eggs and meat.
We share a religious life centered around naturalistic and shamanistic ritual, the ebb and tide of the sun and moon, the cycle of the seasons, and a focus on a maternal Goddess.
We practice communal child-rearing, where children grow up with "many mothers" and "many uncles", but no fathers (or viewed another way, every man in the tribe is a father). Genetic paternity is fiercely made irrelevant.
We also practice an "omni-gamous" style of relationships, where sexual activity within the tribe is unrestricted (between consenting adults). Sexually-exclusive pair-bonding is specifically discouraged.
****NOTE: We are in the "gestational" phase of our development, establishing the vision, character, plans for the growth and development of this tribal community. We will be establishing our first household within the next year.
